United for a Safer Halloween: UDCA’s Commitment to Community Wellbeing   Recently Updated!

As autumn settles over Detroit and Halloween draws near, the United Detroit Community Association (UDCA) reaffirms its commitment to making this beloved tradition joyful, inclusive, and above all—safe. Halloween is more than costumes and candy; it’s a celebration of imagination, neighborhood spirit, and shared memories. Yet with increased foot traffic, nighttime festivities, and heightened excitement, safety must remain a top priority.

Addressing Safety Concerns

UDCA recognizes the unique challenges Halloween presents for families, residents, and local businesses. From dimly lit streets to unfamiliar visitors, the risks are real—but preventable. This season, we encourage everyone to take part in creating a safe and welcoming environment.

  • Be Prepared: Expect a high volume of children in the neighborhood. If you’re participating, stock up on treats and be ready to greet trick-or-treaters with kindness.
  • Signal Participation Clearly: If you’re not distributing candy, please turn off your porch lights to help guide families safely.
  • Plan Ahead: Anticipate traffic congestion. If you need to travel or return home during peak hours, consider arriving early.
  • Allergy-Friendly Options: We’re promoting teal pumpkin homes that offer non-food treats for children with allergies, ensuring every child can participate safely.

UDCA invites every resident, parent, and community leader to join us in making Halloween a celebration of safety, unity, and joy. Detroit Police Department will have a Trick or Treat event at the 12th Precinct (1441 W 7 Mile Rd.) as well. Together, we can transform Halloween into a night of shared purpose and lasting memories.

Let’s make this season not just spooky—but spectacularly safe.
