UDCA Beautification: Planter at Curtis & Livernois

Planter Transitioning to Native Perennial and Pollinator-Friendly Plants

The transformation of the planter box at Curtis & Livernois started in September 2024. The Before photo was taken on September 9, 2024, after 30 hours over 6 hot days of pulling weeds and grass that were 4′ tall.  Volunteers were Tywan Bailey Jr., David Bammel, Veronica Dostal, Dinah Dittman, Essence Hickman, Alex Nicholaides, and Connie Spight.

The beautification work that started this April included planning for the transformation to perennials and native plants that attract and support pollinators and beneficial insects. In May, the remaining rose bushes were adopted by homeowners who will care for them and keep them pruned.

Transplanting and relocation of perennials is underway, and will continue over the next several months. Volunteers included Miranda Suman (Chair, Beautification Committee), Veronica Dostal (designer of the planter box), Jamie Benigna, Andrew Bashi, Dinah Dittman, and Amy Lange.
