Belden Santa Maria Park is Getting A Makeover This Summer!

Belden Santa Maria Park

In March, UDCA formally adopted Belden Santa Maria Park through the Detroit Parks Coalition (DPC) and we are the official volunteer Park Stewards of the park, which the City of Detroit owns. DPC is a nonprofit organization, established in 2016, with a mission of promoting and supporting stewardship of the City’s parks and greenspaces. It manages the Adopt A Park program and convenes Park Stewards regularly for education, networking and advocacy.

The City of Detroit’s General Services Department and its Park and Recreation Division are responsible for security, maintenance and planning of the city-owned parks, including Belden Santa Maria Park. In early April, the UDCA Board of Directors received an outreach notice from the Chief Parks Planner that Belden Santa Maria Park is on this summer’s schedule for capital improvements!

Through its Public Spaces Planning Unit, the General Services Department leads a process to share the Detroit Landscape Architect’s design plans and to engage with the community about the plan and our preferences. A draft sketch can be seen below. Dates are being set for those meetings, which will take place in the May-June timeframe. UDCA will post details on the UDCA website and through electronic channels as soon as we have them. We are committed to facilitating resident input for the much-anticipated and much-needed improvements to the park.
