On June 23, demolition of the existing equipment at Belden Santa Maria Park started, preparing the park for play equipment and other amenities, including durable benches, picnic tables and swings. The Project Manager, City of Detroit Architect Farhat Chaudhry, anticipates that the work will be complete by Labor Day. UDCA is the Park Steward for Belden Santa Maria Park, through an Adopt-a-Park program managed by the Detroit Parks Coalition.
The City of Detroit’s General Services Department and its Park and Recreation Division has posted signage at the park and roped off the entrance. They are responsible for security, maintenance and planning of the city-owned parks, including our neighborhood’s Belden Santa Maria Park.
