Petition signing opportunity – District 2 Community Advisory Council

The Detroit Charter includes the role of Community Advisory Council (CAC) for each of the 7 districts. Currently ONLY two CAC’s exist. One is in District 7 and the newly formed Council in District 4. There is a group of citizens seeking to create a District 2 Community Advisory Council.

The role of the Council is to improve citizen access to the city government, direct citizen participation in government in a formal and institutionalized manner. This Council is an effective means to achieve:

1. community objectives
2. strengthen accountability with the district Council representative prior to votes at Council sessions
3. Improve transparency with proposals, contracts and other agreements deliberated on by Council prior to voting.

In District 2 we need to collect a little over 2000 valid signatures to get the CAC established as written in the charter.  If you are willing to sign the petition and/or help collect signatures – please contact:
